During the two intensive days of theoretical sessions, you will learn: 


– Treatment protocols of single and multiple recessions in the upper and lower jaw
– The author's techniques of mucogingival surgery 
– Treatment of recession around implants
– Soft tissue augmentation prior to implant placement.

 

On the second day of the course, Professor Giovanni Zucchelli will demonstrate live surgery on patients.

– Surgical treatment of a single type recession defect.

– Coronally advanced flap with no vertical releasing incisions
– Site-specific connective tissue graft or collagen matrix application.

– Keratinized tissue height and soft tissue thickness in the prevention of gingival recession around implants
– Treatment of gingival recessions around implants
– Coverage of soft tissue dehiscence/dis-alignment around implants.

Lecturers 2

Professor of Periodontology and Implantology at the University of Bologna, Italy (since 2000).

 

Graduated from the University of Bologna in 1988 and received a PhD in Medical Biotechnology from the same university in 1999. Has more than 30 years of clinical and academic experience, with a primary focus on periodontal plastic surgery and soft tissue management around teeth and implants.

 

Author of more than 100 scientific publications in peer-reviewed international journals. His clinical and research work has significantly contributed to the development and refinement of surgical approaches for the treatment of gingival recession and soft tissue reconstruction.

 

Recipient of several international awards for clinical research, including the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation E. Bud Tarrson Research Award in Oral Plastic Surgery (2006, 2008) and recognition from the European Federation of Periodontology.

 

Associate Editor of the International Journal of Esthetic Dentistry and member of editorial boards of leading periodontal journals.

 

Author of the book Mucogingival Esthetic Surgery (Quintessence, 2012), widely used as a reference in the field.

 

Active member of the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (EAED), Italian Society of Periodontology (SIdP), Italian Academy of Osseointegration (IAO), and the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP).

 

Regular speaker at international congresses and hands-on courses, including live surgical demonstrations.

 

Associate Professor at the Department of Biomedical and Neuromotor Sciences (DIBINEM), University of Bologna, and periodontist in private practice. Clinical and research focus encompasses mucogingival plastic surgery, soft tissue management around implants, root coverage procedures, and regenerative periodontal therapy.

 

Among the most active researchers in the Zucchelli school of periodontal plastic surgery — cited over 5,400 times (Google Scholar). Lead author of the 2024 EFP Focused Workshop systematic review on multiple gingival recessions. Co-author of a chapter in the textbook Implant Therapy (eds. M. Nevins and H.L. Wang). Research published in the International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry and other leading peer-reviewed journals. ITI Fellow since 2018; former Visiting Professor at San Raffaele University, Milan.

 

Speaker at major national and international periodontology conferences, including AAP Annual Meeting and EFP congresses. Hands-on faculty in advanced courses on periodontal plastic and reconstructive surgery alongside Professor Giovanni Zucchelli.
