Plano oclusal – es el lugar importante que más influye en la función y es el factor que controla el crecimiento y el desarrollo de la mandíbula superior e inferior. Se sabe que cuando el plano oclusal se vuelve plano se desarrolla la oclusión mesial y cuando el plano oclusal se vuelve empinado se desarrolla la oclusión distal. Por eso al tratar la patología de la oclusión en general es importante corregir la posición de la mandíbula inferior controlando dimensión oclusal vertical y posición del plano oclusal. Además es el factor más importante en la estabilidad y el soporte oclusal posoperatorio.
