The topics discussed will focus on:

- Whether to graft the gap around immediate implants
- Special extraction techniques to remove multi-rooted teeth without flaps
- Is primary coverage better or worse for the wound healing up against the implant
- Custom abutment use to maintain the shape of the extraction socket
- How wide is OK.  Can we actually place an implant that is wider than it is long.
- What are the long term success rates of these procedures?
- When not to place an immediate and allow for healing first will also be discussed.

Former Professor and Chairman, Department of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry, New York University College of Dentistry. Private multispecialty interdisciplinary practice limited to periodontology, prosthodontics, and implant dentistry in New York City.

 

Author of more than 250 peer-reviewed articles on perio-prosthodontics and implant dentistry — among the most cited researchers in the field worldwide. Co-author of four textbooks, including The Single Tooth Implant (Quintessence, 2020, with Dr. Stephen J. Chu). Pioneered foundational research in the biology and esthetics of the gingival architecture around implants, including the widely cited "papilla preservation" guidelines and critical biologic dimension principles for implant placement. Has a dedicated wing in his name at New York University College of Dentistry.
