Professor and Chairman of Orthodontics specializing in advanced biomechanics, temporary anchorage devices (TADs), aligners, and dentofacial orthopedics. Chairman of the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, since 1994.
Over 40 years of clinical and academic experience in contemporary orthodontics combining traditional biomechanics with digital workflows and skeletal anchorage systems. Director of the Master's Programme in Orthodontics at Universidad de Santiago de Compostela since 1996, training specialists from across Europe and Latin America. Creator and developer of the Straight Wire Low Friction orthodontic technique in collaboration with Rocky Mountain Orthodontics (Denver, CO). Director of International Orthodontic Center in Santiago de Compostela.
International lecturer teaching courses on microimplants, MARPE (miniscrew-assisted rapid palatal expansion), aligners, and hybrid treatment systems across Europe and Latin America. Scientific and clinical adviser to the Spanish Government, Galicia Government, Spanish Dental Council, and Spanish Dental Foundation. Editorial board member of five international dental and orthodontic journals.
MD from Faculty of Medicine, University of Santiago de Compostela (1983). DDS (Stomatology) from University of Oviedo, Spain (1985). PhD in Medicine from University of Santiago de Compostela (1985). Master's degree in Orthodontics from University of Valencia, Spain. Recipient of 12 awards and professional honors including Rodriguez Abaitua Award from the Royal Medicine Academy of Spain and Research Award from the Spanish Dental Council. Member of the European Orthodontic Society (EOS), Spanish Society of Orthodontics (SEDO), World Federation of Orthodontists (WFO), International College of Dentists, Pierre Fauchard Academy, and founding member of multiple Spanish orthodontic societies (ONO, AESOR). Author or co-author of 14 dental and orthodontic textbooks, 110 scientific articles, and 145 congress presentations and posters.
