Professor and Head of the Division of Endodontology at the Clinic of Preventive Dentistry, Periodontology, and Cariology, University of Zurich, Switzerland. Clinical specialist in endodontics with focus on complex root canal treatments, retreatments, and innovative disinfection protocols. Maintains limited endodontic practice alongside full-time academic position.

 

Over 30 years of combined clinical, research, and teaching experience in endodontics. Research focuses on developing novel dental biomaterials for root canal disinfection and obturation, identifying molecular biomarkers for improved pulpal and periapical diagnostics, and electrochemical approaches to treat peri-implantitis. Pioneer in evidence-based irrigation protocols and contemporary root canal disinfection strategies. Supervises multiple PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers in translational endodontic research.

 

Editor-in-Chief of the Swiss Dental Journal since 2015. Former Associate Editor of the International Endodontic Journal. Editorial Board member for multiple scientific journals including Journal of Endodontics and Journal of Clinical Medicine. Author or co-author of over 150 peer-reviewed publications in leading dental and endodontic journals. H-index of 54 with over 8,000 citations. International lecturer presenting at major endodontic conferences worldwide on topics including irrigation, disinfection, vital pulp therapy, and regenerative endodontic procedures. Collaborates with research groups across Europe, North America, and Asia on multicenter clinical trials.
