From a multidisciplinary point of view, occlusion offers a fascinating opportunity to significantly influence the patient‘s physical and mental health. „Best occlusion“ has been debated intensively in academic circles, an apparent result still missing. Occlusal concepts must always be thought of from the perspective of occlusal functions. Too often, particular orthodontic and prosthetic procedures dominate oral rehabilitation and suppress the patient‘s individual needs. The individual occlusal is not a product of chance, primarily when orthodontic techniques and oral prosthetics aim to restore the occlusal functions such as chewing and bruxing. The less the multidisciplinary team leaves to chance, the more individual parameters and needs of the patient are respected, the better the restored occlusion can fulfill the patient‘s expectations. Of course, every individuality is more complex than over-the-counter solutions. However, it is never up to dentists to withhold these individual gnathological advantages from the patient. We must be able to offer this to patients requiring gnathological concepts. Occlusion is a multifaceted and headstrong, sometimes even stubborn structure, which wants to be domesticated by gnathology.
