Leading specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of bruxism.
Author of 240+ scientific papers and studies in the field of bruxism and TMD.
Received his doctorat in dentistry (DDS) in 1978 from the Faculty of Dentistry, Aix-Marseille University, France.
He was certified in Anthropology in 1979, in fixed prosthodontic and Occlusodontology in 1980.
He received his master (DSO) in 1983.
He became assistant in fixed prosthodontic department in 1985.
He received his Doctorat d`Universite – University thesis- in 1990 (PhD).
In 1993 he was associated professor, Chairman of the Occlusion and Dysfunction department of Faculty of Dentistry of Marseille. In this university, he manages a postgraduate education program in occlusion and TMD and a postgraduate education program in fixed prosthetic.
From 2007, he is Full Professor of University. He is Visiting professor of Donau University.
He was President of the French National College of Occlusodontology in 1995-96.
He is member of the European Academy of Craniomandibular Disorders.
He was President of International Academy of Advanced Interdisciplinary Dentistry (iAAID).
He had published 6 books and more than 130 scientific papers about occlusion, TMD and prosthodontics.
Orofacial pain specialist and Dean of the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. Founder and Director of the Orofacial Pain Center at the University of Kentucky (established 1977), recognized as a pioneer in TMD and orofacial pain education.
Over 50 years of academic and clinical experience in temporomandibular disorders and orofacial pain management. Developed the first Master of Science Degree program in Orofacial Pain in the United States, accredited by the American Academy of Orofacial Pain. The Orofacial Pain Residency Program was among the first accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation, graduating 65 full-time residents from 26 countries.
Professor and Chief of the Division of Orofacial Pain, full-time faculty member at the University of Kentucky for 45 years. International lecturer having delivered over 1,300 invited lectures in every state in the USA and 59 foreign countries. Recognized as the "World Ambassador for Orofacial Pain" by peers.
DMD from University of Kentucky (1974). Provost's Distinguished Service Professor. Author of the textbook "Management of Temporomandibular Disorders and Occlusion" (8th edition), translated into 11 languages and used in the majority of US dental schools. Editor of "Orofacial Pain: Guidelines for Classification, Assessment, and Management" (AAOP), used as treatment standards worldwide. Over 240 publications in scientific journals. Past President of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain. Founding Diplomate and twice Past President of the American Board of Orofacial Pain. Recipient of University of Kentucky Great Teacher Award, State of Kentucky Acorn Award, International Dentist of the Year Award from Academy of Dentistry International, and inducted into University of Kentucky Hall of Distinguished Alumni.
Aesthetic and restorative prosthodontist; Owner of Dr. Wahlmann & Associates (Edewecht, Germany, since 1989) and former co-owner and Head of Dentistry at Estetica Clinic (Hamburg, 2006–2015) and White Lounge (Hamburg, 2010–2015) — two private high-aesthetic clinics combining plastic surgery and cosmetic dentistry. Clinical focus covers complex functional and aesthetic full-mouth rehabilitations, team-based smile design using natural head position (NHP) and phonetic bite registration, and the Plane System developed by Udo Plaster for facial reference-based treatment planning.
2005 Gold Medal — American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD), Indirect Restorations category. President, German Society of Cosmetic Dentistry (2017). Chairman, Give Back a Smile Germany — the AACD Charitable Foundation affiliate programme restoring smiles for domestic violence survivors (since 2011). Guest Lecturer — University of Manchester, Master Programme in Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry (2011–2013); Professor Invitado for Aesthetic Dentistry — State University of Seville, Spain (since 2013). Over 200 lectures and hands-on workshops in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, England, USA, Dubai, Russia, India, China, Thailand, Vietnam, Australia, and beyond.
