Professor for Implantology at the Department of Medicine, Albert-Ludwigs University, Freiburg, Germany (since 2002). Co-Founder (with Dr. Otto Zuhr) of the Hürzeler/Zuhr Academy, an internationally renowned educational center for periodontology and implant therapy. Former President of the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (EAED). Maintains private practice in Munich, Germany, together with Dr. Otto Zuhr, with practice limited to periodontics and implant dentistry.
Over 42 years of combined clinical, teaching, and research experience since receiving his degree in 1984. World-renowned expert in regenerative periodontal and peri-implant surgery, soft tissue grafting, plastic periodontal surgery, and aesthetic implant dentistry. Pioneer in developing minimally invasive approaches to periodontal regeneration, tunnel techniques for soft tissue augmentation, and innovative protocols for aesthetic implant site development. Research focuses on soft tissue grafting materials and techniques, minimally invasive periodontal regeneration, plastic periodontal surgery, and long-term outcomes of aesthetic implant therapy.
Author of numerous scientific publications in leading periodontal and implant journals. Co-author of influential textbooks on periodontal plastic surgery and implant dentistry translated into multiple languages. International lecturer having presented extensively throughout Europe, Americas, Asia, and worldwide on topics including plastic periodontal surgery, soft tissue grafting techniques around teeth and implants, minimally invasive regeneration approaches, and aesthetic implant therapy. Creator of the Hürzeler/Zuhr Master Classes, a series of eight comprehensive courses in periodontology and implant therapy supervised by both instructors, considered among the most prestigious advanced training programs worldwide. Key Opinion Leader for multiple dental companies. Mentor to thousands of periodontists and implant surgeons globally through teaching appointments and hands-on courses at the Hürzeler/Zuhr Academy.
DMD from University of Zürich, Switzerland (1984). Certified as Periodontics Specialist by the Swiss Society of Periodontology. Additional training in periodontology and implant dentistry in Switzerland and internationally. Professor appointment at University of Freiburg (2002). Maintains private practice in Munich with Dr. Otto Zuhr since moving from Switzerland.
Specialist in prosthodontics and restorative dentistry with focus on tooth preparation techniques, ceramic restorations, and minimally invasive aesthetic rehabilitation. Maintains private practice in Takasago City, Hyogo, Japan, where he treats complex aesthetic and functional cases requiring precision tooth preparation and advanced ceramics.
Over 20 years of clinical experience in fixed prosthodontics, emphasizing the importance of proper tooth preparation as the foundation for long-term prosthetic success. Known for systematic approach to abutment formation and preparation design that optimizes aesthetic outcomes while preserving tooth structure.
International lecturer presenting throughout Asia, Europe, and North America on tooth preparation techniques for crowns, veneers, overlays, and implant-supported restorations. Active member of the Bio-Emulation group, which promotes biomimetic approaches to restorative dentistry. Member of the Society of Japan Clinical Dentistry. Regular presenter at major dental congresses including Dental World in Budapest and aesthetic dentistry conferences in Japan.
DDS, PhD. Author of "The Tooth Preparation" (Quintessence Publishing), a comprehensive clinical guide on abutment formation for prosthetic restorative treatments, covering fundamental principles, specific techniques, and practical applications. The book has been translated into Korean and other languages.
