Lecturers 1
Private Practice Orthodontist in Brussels, Belgium (since 1986). Researcher and Adjunct Clinical Professor at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Creator and developer of the revolutionary Bone-Anchored Maxillary Protraction (BAMP) protocol for treatment of skeletal Class III malocclusions using miniplate anchorage. One of the most influential orthodontic researchers in orthopedic treatment of Class III patients.
Over 40 years of combined clinical and research experience since graduation. Pioneer in developing bone-anchored orthopedic treatment protocols that achieve true skeletal changes without dental compensation. Creator of the BAMP technique using miniplates surgically placed in maxilla and mandible with intermaxillary elastics to stimulate midface growth in Class III patients. Expert in growth modification for Class III malocclusions, skeletal anchorage systems, rapid maxillary expansion protocols, and alternative approaches to face mask therapy. Research focuses on skeletal and soft tissue effects of bone-anchored orthopedics, comparison with conventional face mask therapy, and long-term stability of orthopedic treatment outcomes.
Author of landmark publications comparing bone anchors versus face mask therapy for maxillary protraction, published in leading orthodontic journals including American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. Research demonstrated BAMP was significantly more effective than face mask therapy (the previous gold standard) for early treatment of Class III and could be implemented at a later age with better skeletal outcomes and no adverse clockwise rotation of mandible. Studies showed enhanced midfacial growth with pure bone-borne orthopedic forces achieving reduction in facial concavity and improved soft tissue profiles without dental compensation of upper incisors. International lecturer presenting extensively throughout North America, Europe, Latin America, and worldwide on topics including bone-anchored maxillary protraction, Class III orthopedics, miniplate placement and loading protocols, and comparative outcomes versus traditional orthopedic approaches. Instructor teaching surgical procedures for miniplate placement and removal, post-surgical follow-up protocols, and biomechanical principles of bone-anchored orthopedics. The BAMP protocol has revolutionized treatment of skeletal Class III malocclusions worldwide.
Graduate of Rijksuniversiteit Gent's Orthodontic Program, Belgium. MS in Orthodontics. PhD from Rijksuniversiteit Gent (1986).
