La mordida abierta anterior esquelética es una de las maloclusiones más difíciles de tratar y retener. Esta dificultad puede atribuirse a una etiología multifactorial compleja, que va desde la herencia de un patrón de crecimiento hiperdivergente hasta factores ambientales como la succión de los dedos y el empuje de la lengua.
Uno de los componentes más prominentes de la mordida abierta esquelética es el crecimiento vertical excesivo del complejo dentoalveolar superior posterior y la resultante rotación mandibular hacia abajo y hacia atrás. Tal rotación abre la mandíbula y contribuye al desarrollo de una mordida esquelética abierta.
Con la mecánica para cierre de mordida abierta de la filosofía MEAW podemos controlar el exceso de crecimiento vertical y devolver al paciente una correcta guía incisiva y canina.
