La técnica de tratamiento ortodóncico con los arcos multiloop rectangulares (M.E.A.W.) fue creada en 1967 por el Dr. Young H. Kim para tratar mordidas abiertas severas, mostrándose extremadamente efectiva en su corrección. Actualmente es también toda una filosofía de tratamiento en la abordaje de las displasias esqueléticas sagitales Clase II y Clase III.
