Associate Professor, Program Convenor for Dentomaxillofacial Radiology (DClinDent DMFR), and Divisional Head of Oral Diagnostic and Surgical Sciences at the Dental School, University of Western Australia, Perth (2018-2020). Currently Legal Dental Expert at OpiniDent BV, Belgium. Former Clinical Associate Professor at University of Washington School of Dentistry, Seattle (2012-2018). Specialist in dentomaxillofacial radiology, pediatric dentistry, and special needs dentistry with expertise in diagnostic imaging, oral medicine, and forensic odontology.

 

Over 30 years of combined clinical, academic, and research experience in dental radiology and diagnostics. Expert in intraoral radiography, CBCT applications, salivary diagnostics, dental anatomy, and local anesthesia techniques. Research focuses on diagnostic efficacy of imaging modalities, radiation dose optimization, anatomical variations (including Stafne's bone cyst), and innovative diagnostic techniques. Pioneer in establishing comprehensive dental radiology curricula and evidence-based diagnostic protocols at multiple universities across three continents.

 

Former Associate Editor for Dentomaxillofacial Radiology (DMFR) journal (2014-2021). Editor-in-Chief at Bohn Stafleu van Loghum publishing. Author of over 100 peer-reviewed publications in international journals on topics including diagnostic imaging, intraosseous anesthesia, salivary function, dental erosion-caries relationships, and pediatric dentistry. Recipient of multiple research grants and awards for contributions to diagnostic imaging and dental education. International educator having established new courses in dental radiology, local anesthesia, oral medicine, and fundamental dentistry at universities in Belgium, USA, and Australia. Regular invited speaker at international conferences on DMFR topics.

 

DDS from University of Ghent, Belgium (1993). Certificate in Paediatric Dentistry and Special Needs Dentistry from University of Ghent (1997). PhD from University of Ghent (2002). MSc in Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology from University of London, United Kingdom (2008). Faculty member at University of Ghent (1993-2012) before international appointments in Seattle and Perth.
