Extensive clinical expertise in differential diagnosis of head, facial, and neck pain of dental origin, conservative treatment of CMD and occlusion-related dysfunctions, and complex prosthodontic rehabilitation of functionally and periodontally compromised dentitions. Former director of the Department of Prosthodontics at the Center for Dental Medicine at Marburg University, where he established comprehensive treatment protocols for CMD patients and geriatric prosthodontics.
Visiting Assistant Professor and Visiting Professor at the TMJ and Orofacial Pain Clinic at University of California San Francisco (1990, 1991, 1993, 1995, 1996) working with Professor Charles McNeill. Over 42 years of combined clinical, teaching, and research experience since graduation in 1984. Expert in temporomandibular disorders diagnosis and treatment, orofacial pain management, orthodontic treatment and its relationship to TMD, manual therapy for musculoskeletal conditions, cognitive-behavioral therapy for TMD patients, jaw exercises, and patient-centered TMD treatment. Recipient of Honorary Degree in Dentistry from University of Malmö, Sweden (2018). Author of over 170 papers published in Italian and international peer-reviewed journals. International lecturer having presented extensively throughout Europe, Americas, and worldwide. Co-author of the International Classification of Orofacial Pain (ICOP). Оbtained his dental degree from the University of Manitoba (Canada) in 1980. Over the next 22 years, he enjoyed the practice of general dentistry from both a public health and private practice perspective until he returned to graduate studies in 2002. In 2004, he completed his training and graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Certificate in Orofacial Pain. In 2005, he completed a fellowship in Oral Medicine/Oral Oncology at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). From 2005 – 2011, he was an Assistant Professor and Director of the Oral Medicine/Orofacial Pain clinic at the College of Dentistry in the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Diagnostic Sciences at Louisiana State University, School of Dentistry as well as the Director of the LSU Orofacial Pain Continuum. Dr. Klasser has published numerous peer reviewed scientific articles while contributing many chapters to various textbooks. He also serves as an associate editor or as an editorial reviewer for a number of journals. He is also co-editor of several textbooks related to oral and facial pain and is a Past-President of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain.
