Prof. Marco Rosa

Marco Rosa, MD, DDS, is an Italian orthodontist with more than four decades of clinical and teaching experience. Dr. Rosa maintains a private orthodontic practice in Trento, Northern Italy. After graduating in medicine with honors, Dr. Rosa completed postgraduate training in dentistry at the University of Bologna and specialist training in orthodontics with honors at the University of Cagliari.

Clinical and research interests include early orthodontic treatment in the mixed dentition, orthodontic space closure in patients with congenitally missing maxillary lateral incisors, and interdisciplinary orthodontic-periodontal care. Dr. Rosa developed and clinically studied a deciduous-tooth-anchored modification of the Haas-type rapid maxillary expander, commonly known as the Marco Rosa appliance. Published work includes peer-reviewed research on these treatment approaches and their long-term outcomes.

Professional credentials include certification by the European Board of Orthodontics and the Italian Board of Orthodontics. A Past President and Active Member of the Angle Society of Europe, Dr. Rosa also served as President of the Associazione Specialisti Italiani in Ortodonzia from 1998 to 2001 and as Visiting Professor at the University of Insubria from 2004 to 2020.

In 2017, Dr. Rosa and co-authors received the B.F. and Helen E. Dewel Award for Clinical Research for a study on the long-term outcomes of orthodontic space closure.
