CV

Full Professor of Orthodontics and Biomedical Engineering at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada (tenured since 2005). Director of the Graduate Orthodontic Program at University of Alberta. Specialist in orthodontics with focus on bioengineering, biomechanics, tissue engineering, and therapeutic ultrasound applications for craniofacial growth and tooth regeneration.

Over 30 years of combined clinical, teaching, and research experience in orthodontics and bioengineering. Research focuses on low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) for dentofacial regeneration, tissue engineering, treatment and repair of orthodontically-induced root resorption, exploring therapeutics to promote mandibular growth for craniofacial syndromes, and biomechanical considerations for clear aligner therapy. Pioneer in applying therapeutic ultrasound for tooth movement, bone formation during distraction osteogenesis, and tooth structure repair. Supervisor of numerous PhD and master's students investigating novel bioengineering approaches to orthodontic challenges.

Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO). Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (FRCD(c)). Humboldt Research Fellow, Germany. Author of over 115 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and three books on orthodontics and bioengineering. International invited speaker at multiple conferences worldwide on therapeutic ultrasound, tissue engineering, and biomechanics. Editorial reviewer for multiple international orthodontic journals. Holder of multiple patents related to ultrasound applications in dentistry.

BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) from Tanta University, Egypt (1987). MSc in Orthodontics from Tanta University (1993). LPP (License to Practice Law) from Tanta University (1994). Certificate of Specialty in Orthodontics from University of Illinois at Chicago (2001). MSc in Oral Sciences from University of Illinois at Chicago (2000). PhD in Bioengineering from University of Illinois at Chicago (2001), studying therapeutic ultrasound effects on bone formation during mandibular distraction osteogenesis. EMBA (Executive Master of Business Administration).
