Honorary Professor at Wuhan University School of Stomatology, Wuhan, China, and Distinguished Adjunct Professor at Saveetha Dental College, Chennai, India. Specialist in complex endodontic procedures with practice focused on retreatment and surgical endodontics.
Over 50 years of combined academic and clinical experience in endodontics. Served as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Endodontics at multiple institutions including Medical College of Virginia (1975-1976), University of Maryland Baltimore College of Dental Surgery (1976-1982), and Baylor College of Dentistry (1982-2014). Full-time faculty for 27 years before transitioning to private endodontic practice in Dallas, Texas.
Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics. Past President of the American Association of Endodontists (AAE). Past President and current Editor of the Journal of the History of Dentistry for the American Academy of the History of Dentistry. One of the most cited specialists in endodontics with over 375 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals including Journal of Endodontics, International Endodontic Journal, and Oral Surgery Oral Medicine Oral Pathology. Senior author of the textbook "Problem Solving in Endodontics" (5th edition, 2011), translated into nine languages. Presented over 850 lectures and continuing education courses in the United States and 54 countries across six continents. Honorary member of dental societies in Greece, Lebanon, Colombia, Turkey, and multiple other countries.
DDS from Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin (1970). Certificate in Endodontics from University of Illinois at Chicago (1973). Honorary PhD from multiple institutions. Recipient of the Edgar D. Coolidge Award (highest honor from AAE), I.B. Bender Lifetime Educator Award (AAE), Jens Ove Andreasen Lifetime Achievement Award (International Association of Dental Traumatology, 2014), Hayden-Harris Award (American Academy of the History of Dentistry), and Honorary Fellowship in Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Scotland.
